- I've been craving (seriously craving) Dr. Pepper every day. I've been spending way too much money on those 79 cent drinks - stuff adds up - but I can't help it...
- I finally got a solid night's sleep last night. I took a sleeping pill, which I don't like doing unless I have to... but after taking an accidental FOUR HOUR nap yesterday, I figured it was time to help myself out and sleep.
- I need to make a packing list for our trip to Wisconsin. I'm putting it off and I don't know why. I'm usually pretty on top of such things.
- I've had a little set back with my health. It seems as though my Alopecia is trying to fight back, and I lost a little bit of hair. Nothing considerable or even that anyone else would notice by looking at me... but I notice. I seriously have the best derm on the planet though, and he's doing everything he possibly can for me and I'm so grateful.
- Tomorrow is $1 flip flop day at Old Navy. If you have any portion of a brain, you won't come.
- I really want BBQ for dinner soon.
- I'm going to WOF on Sunday, and I'm really excited. It's a triple date with Jessica/David, Hannah/Tim, and Ben/me. We're going to picnic, swim, and ride rides, AND IT WILL BE THE BEST DAY EVER.

Round Up (& Kendall Mae!)
To say that things have been busy lately would be a bit of an understatement in my opinion. Even only working the number of days a week that I do, there's always something else to do! I guess that's what I get for applying to this program and getting engaged!
Over the past weekend was a friend of mine's daughter's 2nd birthday. She had a circus themed party and the kiddos had tons of fun! Jessica is super creative on a budget, so the parties have been very cute the past 2 years. It's so fitting that she's opening up her own preschool/daycare - she's so great with kids. I just know that it's going to go so well!
The past few days have been filled with running errands and seeing friends. Monday, I went shopping with Jessica and Stacey (and Kendall) for a couple things I needed for the wedding, and we went to the book store. I picked up a book/journal that I'd been eyeing for about a month (see below). The idea of making lists as a type of journal really intrigued me, so I'll let you know how it ends up working out! :)
Monday night I had dinner with two of my coworkers from LFE. It was night to just sit, chat, and catch up with them after not seeing them for a month. It's weird to go from seeing people every day to hardly ever... Hopefully next time all of the girls from the staff can come!
Tuesday I worked, had lunch with Jessica, Stacey, and my mom, then the four us and Ben went for the flower meeting. Today was a little busier as we had a couple family friends over for lunch today, I had an appointment with one of my doctors, and then Ben and I visited with some of his family. First, we went and chatted with his great aunt and uncle for a bit, then afterward we went and visited his aunt/cousin at her house for a few hours. It was nice to just chit chat for a bit. Plus I got a couple cute pictures of their new kitty Hazy!

Top 10 suggestions to being the Perfect Bride
Having been a bridesmaid twice in the past eight months and being in the midst of planning my own wedding (being a bride), I've put together a list of what I think are the top 10 things a bride needs to do for her bridesmaids!!
- Asking your girls. Once you have decided on your bridal party, choose a special way to ask your girls! Whether it be making them a gift, buying a card that suits your friendship, or taking them out to dinner or drinks to talk it over one on one, the initial question is very important! You want your women to feel special and that you couldn't imagine the process without them - because after all, they are and you shouldn't be able to!

- Dressing your girls. I'm of the opinion that your bridesmaids have the right to look beautiful AND be comfortable on your big day. If you're going for a mis-matched but cohesive look, give your girls a color scheme and give the freedom to pick a dress they love. If you're asking them all to wear the same dress (like I am), make sure it's something that you wouldn't mind wearing yourself. You might be the bride, but these are most important ladies in your life - you want to make them look good!

- Introducing your girls. Something that I really appreciate as a bridesmaid is knowing the other bridesmaids before the big day. If your bridesmaids aren't already friends (i.e. college roommates, out of town cousins, high school best friend, etc.), try to set up a time and place for all of them to meet so that the awkward first encounters are out of the way before the big day. This could take place at showers, your bachelorette, or just a planned day that everyone might happen to be in the same town. If this isn't possible before hand due to traveling or finances, start a group e-mail or Facebook thread so that everyone can talk and get to know each other!

- Keeping your girls updated. As a bridesmaid (and a bride), it's important to me that everybody knows what's going on in terms of the wedding. Whether that mean important appointments, time changes, get togethers, or just updates on things you've bought. It helps the bride de-stress, and in turn helps the bridesmaids gage whether or not the bride needs help and might not be asking (yet).
- Loving your girls. Having a long engagement myself, I've found it really important and special to make sure my girls know how much I appreciate everything they're doing (or will be doing soon) in terms of my wedding. A little card here and there goes a long way!
- Asking your girls for help. In terms of bridesmaids actually helping with things for the wedding, I think that the most important thing to consider is that the bride needs to be aware that while your bridesmaid is your bridesmaid, they have lives too. It's important that brides are sensitive to schedules, time constraints, etc. and not be resentful if a bridesmaid can't make it to every single thing. This also means that it's taboo to text your girls at the last minute for help - they have lives!
- Showering your girls. This for me kind of goes along with "loving your girls." I think bridesmaid gifts are important, even if it's just something small. Inevitably, bridesmaids take on the role knowing that they're going to spend a lot of their own money to be a part of your special day and a final "thank you" needs to happen!
- Let your girls let loose. I think it's important to keep in mind that the goal is for everyone to have a good time and celebrate your special day. Let your bridesmaid have a drink if they want to, let them dance around in the underwear if they want to... it's a special day for them too!

- Prep your girls for your guests. Give your girls a heads up about the people they'll be running into throughout the process. This means warning them about creepy cousins, giving them the low down on any cute single friends, telling them about your snippy aunt, etc. This way they can avoid awkward conversations or divert any potentially stressful situations for you.
- Be honest with your girls. While it's true that your bridesmaids are (most likely) in charge of planning your shower and/or bachelorette party, don't be afraid to be honest if they're planning something that will make you uncomfortable or isn't your style. If you've picked the right girls, they won't mind changing a few things to make your days special!

flowers, registering, and china patterns
Today, we had our floral consultation for the wedding. With a few bumps in the road, we decided on the bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, and other misc. decorations handled by the floral department for our wedding day. I'm really excited for the way everything is going to look, and the way we're incorporating our colors into flowers and decorations. Simple and classic, just like I was hoping for. Plus we stayed close to budget, and I feel like we took a really big step in planning.
I have to say, I'm not sure what to do next though. I think finding out we couldn't register at one of the stores we had hoped to register at put a bummer on the situation for a couple days. We had hoped to register at World Market so that we could choose unique dishes and maybe get a couple bottles of wine as gifts from some of our friends... but alas, they don't have a registry. We still have 2 stores we're planning to register for gifts at, but should we pick another store? I realize that World Market is a little bit of a "novelty choice," but I felt like it was us. I wouldn't know where else to register even. Does anyone have any great wedding registry suggestions? I'm trying to keep in mind that some of our guests are on budgets, or live in smaller communities that don't have some of the larger stores we do in Independence/KC.
Registering kind of loops me back around to dishes again. Do people still register for china? I'm thinking Ben and I don't need to because I have a set that has been given to me from EACH of my grandmother's... so, technically we already have 2 sets, and I honestly don't envision myself using china very often. I don't know if it's our generation and if we're just less formal? Did any of my married friends register for (and actually receive or use) china when you made your lists??
I also got to walk down the aisle today to figure out how long my song needed to be for my processional. That was a little surreal. I'm getting married....

Homework... Bleh
As I've mentioned before, I am enrolled in an accelerated Master's program through MU. This summer I'm enrolled in 4 classes, so I'm basically always doing homework (or at least I should be). I'm so excited for this opportunity, but sometimes I lack the motivation. I was thinking maybe if I wrote down all of the things I need to finish before I leave for Wisconsin on July 3rd, that it would make it more tangible - and maybe I'll actually do the assignments!

Directionally Challenged...
Okay, so, I wasn't going to make a post about this... but the more I sit and stew on it, I can't help but think I have to. I'm not generally one to judge or make comments on people's parenting choices because - hey, I'm not a parent... but it this case, I think it's been on everybody's mind.
NORTH WEST?!
I'm not a huge Kardashian fan. Sometimes I'll stop and watch the show if there's nothing else on TV, and I follow Khloe on Twitter because she's funny and normal, but that's about it. As far as Kanye, I like some of his music, but I think he's a jerk. BUT REALLY GUYS?
To be totally honest, it's not even that I hate the name North. It's actually unique, and it could grow on me. But her last name is West... Your daughter's name is two directions? What did she do to you to deserve it?! What ever happened to names like Amy, Rebecca, Laura, or Jessica? What is with this need of celebrities to name their children odd names?
I guess I'll just never understand....

Songs I'm Obsessed with
Lately, I've started researching/listening to songs to try to figure out our wedding music. This has been somewhat daunting because so many songs remind me of memories - whether to do with Ben, friends, life events, etc. With that said, I've come back across some amazing music that I've been listening to on repeat in my car lately. Some of it may end up being used for the wedding... other's not. You'll have to wait and see...

All My Life - K-Ci & JoJo (for Shelby)
My Girl - The Temptations
She Is Love - Parachute

Movie Review(s)!
To be quite honest with my readers, I am not a constant movie go-er. Movies are ridiculously priced these days, and I have a hard time justifying spending all of that money when I could just watch it later from Redbox or on Netflix. But alas, thanks to a gift card and free movie passes that my mom got at work, Benjamin and I have been to the movies not once, but TWICE in the past week and a half. The last two Tuesday's we have gone to eat and then seen a movie (date nights are RARE, so this has been AWESOME!!!).
On June 11th, we went to see The Purge. This movie was CRAZY. It was set in 2022, which was weird, because it seems so close to now - and basically, once a year, all crime is legal for 12 hours... including murder. This family comes under attack and... well, you'll have to see it to find out how it ends! What I can tell you is, after leaving the movie, Ben and I spent the entire drive home saying "WTF, that was SO CRAZY!," "I can't believe that movie!," and "It's weird to think that could really happen!" It was totally a mind blowing movie that made you think! I'd only give it 3.5 out of 5 stars though!
On June 18th, we went to see This Is The End. This movie had an all-star comedic cast, and let's face it, I'm game for any and every movie that has Emma Watson in it because she's perfect. I would say that the story line was kind of stupid, in my opinion. But all of the cameos from various celebrities, the chemistry between the main cast of actors, and the one-liners made up for that. In addition, my favorite boy band in history, The Backstreet Boys, show up not once, but TWICE in the movie. That alone made it worth seeing for me! I would give it 4 out of 5 stars!
There are definitely still a number of movies that I want to see though! Some of which are:

Since I've been Gone
I guess it's time to catch you up on the events that habe been taking place 'round these parts. I've been busy with school, work, and wedding planning... but it's all been good fun!
The last week of May all of the 2013-2014 Fellows had our orientation week at Mizzou. We completed 3 graduate hours in that 1 week, so it was definitely a long, comprehensive one... but it felt so great to be back on campus, in classes, with people who have the same career goals as me. I also got to meet my mentor teacher and roommates for next year!

Since that week our actual classes started for summer. I have two classes that you would consider to meet regularly, but we've had sporadic assignments for two other classes as well.
I've also been able to make 2 trips up to Chillicothe to see my classroom, and our house that we will be living in next year. Here are some snapshots:
As far as wedding planning, we've been working on some big decisions lately! Today we met with Grace and Madd Paperie to talk about our invitations, and we've also been working on all of the various guest lists (wedding, showers, bachelorette, etc.). Making lists seems to be my forte at this point! I'm hoping my vision plays out!

I am From a lot of things:
I am from macaroni, pasta, and Kraft.
I am from avid clothes shoppers, and brightly colored Old Navy jeans.
I am from the Rugrats, Legends of the Hidden Temple, and Nickelodeon.
I am from drive-ins and comedies, Criminal Minds and Ion Channel.
From temple guards will always scare you, and Reed and Morgan will always get justice.
I'm from Kansas City, Christmas morning, family trees, the dinner table, and marriage.
I am from the country full of big, golden arches.
From my brother playing in a band, to singing along with bands playing on the radio, to marching in one myself.
I am from American rock/pop music of the 60's, and Frankie Valli, and singing along to the radio in my mother's car.
I am defined by blogs, music, text messages, and epic movies of my time like Harry Potter. Because what we like is who we are, and what we like belongs to everyone else too.

Trends I'm joining in on!
Today was my last pay day from my job with LSR7, which for me meant getting to buy myself a few things I've had my eye on!
Fashion shorts are really in style right now! Bold colors and prints. I've had my eye on these vertically striped shorts at Old Navy for a while now, and with them on sale I finally allowed myself to pick them up! Along with that, my purchase included a new, blue chambray shirt (you guys know how I love my chambray), and a basic t-shirt with polka dots!
I also went to Bath & Body Works, and picked up a couple pairs of their shea-infused socks. Not only are these socks colorful and comfy, but because they're infused with shea they're great for the psoriasis on my feet!

I'm looking forward to wearing my new items! What are some of the things you guys have picked up lately? Any great, basic items that you've grabbed??

Top 5 Places I want to go: Summer 2013
- I have a burning desire to go to a theme park. I want to ride roller coasters and buy over priced food, and maybe even get old time pictures taken. I had some of the best memories of my childhood watching live musical shows and spinning on rides, so this needs to happen.
- I want to tour a brewery. I've never done this before, and I think it would be fun to do with some girlfriends, or even as a date with another couple or two?
- THE ZOO. I have been trying to find someone to go to the zoo with me for weeks now, and nobody can find the time! It's getting to the point where I may just have to borrow Kendall from Jessica so that I can go and not look like a loser by myself.
- My new house in Chillicothe, MO. I'm getting more and more excited as the time gets closer, and the whole situation becomes more real feeling. School is in full swing, and I've seen my classroom. Seeing my room is when it really hit me that I get to be a real, live teacher next year. I can't wait!!!
- My bed. To sleep. I miss solid nights of sleep so much. But if you don't think this answer counts... I want to go mini-golfing! Again, a potential destination for a double or triple date night! I'm overly competitive, but hey, it's fun!
What are some of the places you're dying to go to celebrate summer?!

WORD VOMIT
- A lot of bad things have been going on lately. Sometimes I get angry because I don't understand why it all keeps happening to ME and MY family. I've got enough to deal with, personally... why the added stress??? Because I can handle it??
- Summer classes are fully in swing. I think I'm going to really like my Children's Literature class. I read an essay on Fairy Tales today that really got me thinking about the "original" stories, and the reasoning for the changes.
- I'm getting so excited to move to Chillicothe. I can't even put it into real words. It's the biggest, scariest thing I've ever done in my life, and I'm doing it regardless of everything that's happened over the past year. I'm so excited!!
- I really need to catch up on my scrapbook... But where do I find the time?
- I got a raise at work today. One of my coworkers tweeted something last night about how drastically different her life would be if she hadn't ever worked at Old Navy. It got me thinking about how true that is for me too. I mean, I met some of my greatest friends, and my fiance there. So weird to think about.
- I really need to buy MORE CHAMBRAY SHIRTS.
- I got white Keds. They are awesome.
- I like Orange Gatorade better when it's warm. When it's cold, it's still okay, but I like it better warm.
- I'm trying to nail down as much wedding stuff as I can before I move. I ordered the last part of my bridesmaids' gifts and they should be here in the next week!! I'm way ahead on that. And I've started making guest lists for all of the different events. Flower appointments, DJ, bartender, and so much more needs to happen before then! Eeeeek.
Now I will leave you with my favorite picture from my friend's Jessica's wedding last month!!!

5 Years already?
As some (or most) of you already know, I started working part-time at Old Navy 5176 in June of 2008. I needed a summer job while I was home from college, and that's just how it worked out. I was late to my interview because my car broke down, but for some reason they hired me anyway!
Today marks 5 years working for this company. I complain about how the job sucks and the pay sucks (they do), but I have to say, the people I've met over my years there have changed my life in so many ways. The people at Old Navy have seen me through my struggles with Psoriasis since they really started to flair up in March of 2010. They've worked with me on my "bad hand days," and let me cut my availability to ridiculous hours because of school or other jobs, and for that I'm thankful.
Cheers to the most functional/dysfunctional relationship I've ever had! Happy 5 years, Old Navy!

An Ode to Teaching friends
Throughout my undergraduate career, I was lucky to meet some of the best women while in my content study. Amazing women who are getting married, changing the world, and being even more amazing teachers! I can't thank the world enough for letting the fates bring people like this into my life during the tough times I faced during undergrad. I would never be where I am without them.
