Last week I had the opportunity to visit Washington DC. Not only did I visit Washington DC, but I visited Washington DC in the middle of one of the most controversial election years in history. I visited Washington DC in the midst of police shootings, the Black Lives Matter movement, and the intense race between Donald and Hillary. I wasn't sure what to expect going to the nations capital, especially during a time when people are so emotionally charged about everything. I had only been once for one day last summer with my parents. I'd never seen the White House. I'd never toured the capital. I'd never ridden the DC Metro system. Now upon returning from vacation it is my advice to everyone to visit Washington DC.
I don't know that I've ever really considered myself an extremely "patriotic" person, even though, ironically, that my high school's mascot. I'm proud to be an American but what does that really mean? Does it mean I'm proud to buy products from the United States? Sure. Does it mean that I work for my state's education system trying to better future generations? Maybe. Does that mean that I enjoy traveling across the country or I know the nation's presidents in chronological order? I'm not really sure. But guys I got to watch the changing of the guard at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier. I had the opportunity to see the balcony in which Abraham Lincoln was sitting when he was assassinated. I got to see the room inside the White House, where the Obamas, Clintons, and many other first families used to eat dinner.
It is my hope that at some point, people in our wonderful country can learn to get along. To love each other, rather than attack each other over everything. It is my hope that people educate themselves and vote. It is my hope that people take pride in where we come from, and we help each other to make it decent again.
In the mean time, here are some photos from my trip:
