This week, I am actually going to feature my first year at Mizzou again. I'm choosing to do this because Mizzou has been in the news quite a bit over the past year. Everything from professors threatening students, to racial issues, to the basketball program having wins rescinded. While all of these things are noteworthy, and obviously newsworthy, Mizzou is so much more.
I remember finding out that I had gotten into Mizzou my senior year. Originally, I had plans to attend Missouri State, but as graduation got closer, I changed my mind. I moved to Columbia in August, and ended up sharing a room with a random roommate, Alicia. We were very different, but she made MU home more than I think I ever told her. It took us some time to open up to each other, but eventually she knew all of my boy secrets and I was able to corrupt her a little bit. :) I also made friends with some of the girls on my floor. Sam, in particular, helped me transition to college life, meet some of my best friends from that time period, and learn to drink.
Between new friends, exploring campus, classes, going to tailgates, and everything else, freshman year was the foundation for my time in Columbia. I met some of the greatest people, whom I still love and cherish to this day. For me, aside from the obvious degree, THAT is what college is about. That's how I choose to remember my alma mater. That's how I choose to remember Mizzou - my home.
