Alright guys, the topic of my post today is this video. Please watch. I'll wait.
OKAY! Now that you've watched, how do you feel? Are you proud? Are you offended? Do you really just want a Coca-Cola?
Time for unpopular (maybe popular?) opinion...
I got goosebumps watching this video. I love that it is inclusive of different cultures and backgrounds. I love that it represents different stories, all American. Think about it. The people who founded this land didn't speak English. The first people to cross the ocean and settle here - most didn't speak English. While individual states may list English as their official language, there is no official language of the United States. We are a melting pot. A combination of other countries, backgrounds, languages, and stories making up a nation.
A good friend of mine said it best on Facebook the other day:
"I read about the people complaining about the multilingual Coke commercial and I get angry. Then I remember I don't need to be angry. I need to be proud. Proud that I was raised with love in my heart. I know my life is SO much richer because I accept others that act, look and speak differently than me."
I'm gonna go drink a Coke! Peace out, girl scouts!
