[Day 5] Gettysburg, PA --> Hershey, PA --> Lancaster, PA
This is going to be a pretty photo-heavy post because Day 5 was eventful! We left D.C. on Day 4 and went ahead and drove to Gettysburg so that we would have all day on Thursday [Day 5] to do the things we wanted to do. We started out by taking a bus tour of the battle grounds and historic downtown area. We felt like this was the best way to see everything we could, plus we had an awesome tour guide who had tons of good info and jokes!

Not everybody knows this, but I am also certified to teach Middle School Social Studies [5-9]. I took a ton of History and Government classes in college, and went on to teach 8th grade SS during my student teaching for 2 months. During this time I got to teach my students about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War, so this stop was a really cool and interesting stop for me too. Hearing our guide talk about all of the blood shed, what each monument was for, etc. was so eye opening. American History is so tragic, but so interesting at the same time.

After we finished up the bus tour, we headed out to Hershey, PA. This stop was a request of my dad. The factory actually doesn't do a tour anymore, so we went to what is called Hershey's Chocolate World. At Chocolate World they have a little guided tour ride that you can ride to learn the process of making the chocolate. It even had singing cows! The whole operation was really neat; they had tons of different candies to buy, characters to meet, ice cream and food, and there's an amusement park you can buy tickets to as well. We didn't do the amusement park, but we did check out the store and the tour ride.

After about an hour at Chocolate World we jumped back into the car and drove on to Lancaster. My dad really wanted to check out "Amish country," so we stayed about 10 minutes from town in Ronks, PA at the Red Caboose Motel. The rooms at the Red Caboose are LITERALLY train cars that have been converted to hotel rooms. It was a neat experience, and the cars were really cool, but I think next time I'd skip the bunk bed I had to sleep on! :)

[Day 6] Lancaster, PA --> Yonkers, NY
We woke up at about 6:00am on Day 6 so that we could get on the road to Yonkers, NY [which was about 4 hours away]. I was able to catch this shot of the sun right as we got on the road!
