Chiefs Training Camp

Well, guys... this post has been sitting in my queue for about three days with no text in it because I dropped the ball. I went back to work this week in Cameron, so my days have been filled with trainings, parent communication, and getting some planning done before school starts. I'm also still working at Old Navy on Wednesday nights so it took me about two days to catch up from having that 16 hour day. Alas, here we are, and I bring to you today the glory that is Chiefs Training Camp.

The Kansas City Chiefs are a favorite passtime of mine. If you know me at all, or have kept up with this blog, you know that going to games has become a family affair. My family owns a bus, we all have season tickets, and friends come and go on game day to enjoy the tailgate. As you also may know, I've got two of the very best friends in the world - one of whom has a season ticket with us. When Stacey asked me if I wanted to go to training camp, I said sure! We didn't expect to over heat and get terrible sunburns, but it was worth it!

We got to Missouri Western in St. Joe about two hours early so that we could buy tickets and get a good place in line. [The better place in line, the first choice of where to sit when they open gates to camp]. We entertained ourselves by taking pictures and chatting with our line neighbors all morning.

Basically how they have it set up at camp is there are two practice fields right next to each other. You can sit on the bleachers on one side to have a great view of practice, or you can sit on the grassy hill and get to see special teams when they split up to run plays/have prime autograph location. We went with the grassy hill and got front row spots for autographs. We didn't actually SEE much of the practice, but again, this was worth it!

A priority of mine for the day was to get Eric Berry's autograph. Honestly, I would have been happy if that was the only autograph I got. His journey since being diagnosed with cancer is just plain inspiring - for goodness sakes, he GAINED WEIGHT during his chemotherapy by taking it through IV and continuing to work out. We DID end up getting Berry's autograph [on our "Be Bold, Be Brave, Be Berry" t-shirts!!], in addition to seven others!
PS. I promise I was supposed to be in the picture with Berry and Stacey, but the frame was too small on my phone and it was either cut out me or him... you see what I decided!

Overall, we had a great time "chatting" with players as they signed autographs. Stacey got in a pretty hilarious conversation with Colquitt about how he and his brother like to reproduce, resulting in him agreeing and saying it was fun before realizing there were children around. Another highlight of the day [while not during the autograph session], was when I yelled M-I-Z to Chase Daniel as he came on to the practice field and he responded by yelling Z-O-U.
Also, right below this is the one picture I did manage to get in with a player that day... I promise that really is Alex Smith. Dang sun!
Here are some snaps of my t-shirt after camp. Huge shout out to the guys who stayed after practice to sign things for the fans. We were really excited to get autographs from Kelce, Avant, Daniel, Smith, Berry, Colquitt, Wilson, and Morse! I really loved that Berry signed inside of the football on his shirt too. :)

To wrap it up, here is a shot off of a media instagram account of Stacey getting her shirt signed by Colquitt, and a little collage I put together of day's highlights. We had a blast! It definitely put football on the brain; I can't wait for the season to get started! Go Chiefs!!
